AFS Pre-Return Orientation and Beach Party
We held a 10:30-12 Orientation on May 17, 2025 to say goodbye to Celia, our student from Spain, plus a 12-3 lunch and beach party with volunteers, sending and hosting families.
We invited all the people that get the Greater LA Newsletter to attend. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a great date for some people and was spitting rain – unusual for Southern California – but nonetheless we had 11 people attend:
- Celia and her host Mom Carolyn
- SENDING MOM Janine, whose daughter Jade is still in Italy on AFS
- SENDING DAD Wayne and his son Earl (OUTBOUND YP to Italy)
- Karen (ORIENTER and FUNMEISTER)
- Janika, her mom, and sister – originally from the CAPITAL DC REGION, just graduated from USC and is headed for a State Department job in Rwanda shortly
- Yuri (our UKRAINIAN student hosted in 2020-21 as the war broke out), Did 2 years at Palos Verdes High, now is finishing 2 years at El Camino Community College, headed out next month for San Francisco State U.
- Dave, the host
It was fun! Many animated conversations among Earl, Celia, and Yura on what it’s like to be an AFSer. Plus good discussions among Carolyn, Janine, Wayne, and Karen on the parent view of AFS. Everybody had a great time.
